Health Insurance

In addition to your own health insurance, KCP provides students with minor medical and accident coverage.

KCP’s minor medical insurance begins the day after arrival in Japan and continues through the last day of the program. However, KCP coverage is a supplemental or “top up” policy of health insurance for study abroad in Japan. You must be covered by another insurance policy while in Japan or while on any independent travel excursion. It is your responsibility to secure additional coverage before departing for Japan.

The KCP coverage is offered to students entering on a tourist visa or one term study only. Long term or students on a student visa will register for the National Health Insurance plan.

The KCP health insurance covers:

Death by injury ¥2,000,000
Residual disability ¥2,000,000
Death by sickness ¥2,000,000
Medical treatment cost per case ¥500,000
Reparation liability per case ¥30,000,000
Coverage is subject to change without notice.

Incidentals

  • Make sure your existing plan covers you while abroad. Read your insurance policy thoroughly to understand all limitations.
  • The KCP plan does not cover (1) major medical; (2) dental disease; (3) pregnancy, childbirth, premature birth, or miscarriage; (4) any pre-existing condition. It is only available for students studying one term.
  • Students who visit a doctor while in Japan may have to pay out-of-pocket fees.
  • If you plan to attend KCP longer than one term and will therefore obtain a long-term visa, you will be required to participate in Japan’s National Health Insurance (Kokumin Kenko Hoken). You are responsible for the charges to join and maintain National Health Insurance coverage. The average student cost per month for the National Health Insurance should be less than $20/month.
